USDF Bronze & Silver Medalist, USDF "L" Program Graduate with "Distinction"
Nicki has been riding since she was 4 years old and is one of the youngest 4-H members to receive special permission to compete before her 6th birthday. At 8 years old, while still involved in 4-H, Nicki joined Pony Club and has been an active member ever since. Additionally, Nicki's three-day eventing experience has taken her through Preliminary Level. In 1991, at the age of 11, Nicki began taking Dressage lessons with Kari McClain and continues to this day. While Dressage became her passion, Pony Club kept her involved in three-day eventing for many years.
Nicki continues her involvement in both 4-H and Pony Club, giving clinics, being a rating examiner, judging for 4-H Fair qualifications, and judging schooling shows. Nicki started teaching lessons to Pony Club students in 1996, in preparation for her C-3 rating and has been teaching ever since. Nicki has been the Assistant Trainer at Miari Stables since 2004. Additionally, she balances all of this with her daily life as a First Grade teacher. Nicki's academics have earned her a Master’s Degree in Teaching and Nicki believes this compliments her experience and dedication as a riding instructor.
Nicki enjoys working with riders at all levels, encouraging students to develop a solid basic balanced position, confidence, understanding of how to effectively communicate the rider’s aids, and further the knowledge of fine-tuning of these skills. Nicki works individually with students to identify the training needs of each horse and rider. Nicki's overall goal is for both the horse and rider to become a harmonious team.
Nicki has shown locally, regionally, and internationally. Nicki has earned USDF Silver and Bronze medals and is currently working on earning scores for her Gold Medal. Additionally, Nicki has completed the USDF "L" Program for judges, graduating with "Distinction". She strives to better her riding and teaching skills by taking weekly lessons and participating in riding clinics with instructors from abroad.
